Selling furniture fast

Furniture is awkward to sell. It is big, it is heavy, buyers cannot judge it from one photo, and everyone knows you would rather not carry it down the stairs again. That is why so many good sofas and beds sit unsold for weeks, and why a little preparation makes yours the one that goes this weekend. Here is the method, step by step.

1. Decide: together or separately

A complete bedroom set or dining set attracts families setting up a home, and saves you five separate deals. Separate pieces attract more buyers and often add up to more money, but take longer. A practical middle path: list the set at one price, say in the description that pieces can be sold separately, and give each price. Do not post five extra ads for the same items; duplicates are removed.

2. Clean it and fix the small things

An hour of work here changes the price buyers will accept.

  • Vacuum sofas and mattresses, and wipe wood with a slightly damp cloth, then a dry one.
  • Tighten loose screws, handles and wobbly legs.
  • Touch up small scratches on wood with matching polish.
  • Wash cushion covers and put them back properly.
  • Empty every drawer and shelf. Buyers open them all.

Do not try to hide real damage. A re-polished termite hole is still a termite hole, and the buyer will find it in your living room, with a truck waiting outside.

3. Measure everything

The first question for any furniture ad is "what size is it?" Answer it in the ad and you skip half the messages.

  • Width, depth and height, in feet and inches.
  • For beds: the mattress size (single, double, queen, king) and whether the mattress is included.
  • For sofas: how many seats, and the length of the longest piece.
  • For wardrobes and wall units: whether they come apart, and the size of the largest piece. This decides whether it will go through the buyer's door.

4. Say what it is made of

Pakistani buyers ask about wood before anything else, and price follows the answer.

  • Solid wood: name it if you know it. Sheesham (tali) and deodar (diyar) hold their value best.
  • Engineered boards: lasani, MDF and chipboard are lighter and cheaper. Say so plainly. Calling a lasani wardrobe "pure wood" ends the deal at the door.
  • Mixed: very common, for example a sheesham frame with ply panels. Describe it as it is.
  • Sofas: the frame material, whether the foam still holds its shape, and the fabric type.
  • Metal and glass: mention rust, chips or cracks.

If you do not know the wood, say "not sure of the wood type" and let the buyer inspect. Honest uncertainty is better than a confident guess.

5. Photograph it like a showroom would

  • Pull the piece away from the wall, clear the clutter around it and open the curtains.
  • Take the whole piece from the front and at an angle. This is your cover photo.
  • Then the sides, the back, inside the drawers and cupboards, and close-ups of the wood grain and the joints.
  • One photo with a person or a door in the frame helps buyers judge the size.
  • A clear photo of every scratch, stain, burn mark or repair.

Use your own photos, never the shop's catalogue picture. If you add them first, the AI ad creator can draft the title and description; you then add the measurements and the wood type, which it cannot know from a picture.

6. Write the ad

Title: what it is, the material and the age. "King bed with side tables, sheesham, 4 years used" beats "Bed set for sale".

Description:

  • the pieces included, with measurements;
  • material and age;
  • condition, including faults;
  • whether it dismantles;
  • which floor it is on and whether there is a lift;
  • that the buyer arranges transport, or what you can offer;
  • area and the times it can be seen.

List it in the right part of Home & Furniture: sofas with sofas, beds with beds. Buyers browse by type.

7. Price it to move

  • Search for similar pieces in your city and note what they ask.
  • Used furniture sells for much less than it cost new, and engineered board loses value faster than solid wood. Price on what similar pieces are listed for today, not what you paid.
  • If you have a deadline, such as moving out at the end of the month, price slightly below the others from day one. Dropping the price on the last weekend, with the buyer knowing you are stuck, costs more.
  • Mark it negotiable and decide your lowest figure in advance.
  • Offer a discount for taking everything. One buyer and one truck is worth a lot to you.

8. Pick your moment

Demand for furniture rises when people move and marry: around the end and start of each month, before the wedding season and before Eid. If you can choose your timing, post a week or two ahead of these, and post early in the weekend so people can come while they are free.

9. Handle viewings and collection safely

Furniture is one of the few things buyers must see at your home, so take a little care.

  • Arrange viewings in daylight, with another adult at home.
  • Show the furniture and nothing else. Keep phones, wallets and jewellery out of sight, and do not leave visitors alone in a room.
  • Keep the conversation in the BUY.net.pk chat, and do not share more personal detail than the address.
  • Take payment in full before anything is loaded. Count the cash, or confirm the transfer in your own app. A screenshot is not a payment.
  • Do not accept "I will pay when it reaches my home", and do not send anything by a transporter the buyer books before paying.
  • Agree who dismantles and who carries. If the buyer's labour damages your stairwell or door, sort it out before they leave.

10. Close it properly

Mark the ad as sold as soon as the truck leaves, so the messages stop. If something is left over, a low price or a free listing usually clears it within a day; someone setting up a first home will be glad of it.

The short version

  1. Clean, tighten, touch up.
  2. Measure and note the material.
  3. Bright photos, faults included.
  4. Honest ad with sizes, floor and lift.
  5. Price from today's listings, with a set discount.
  6. Payment first, loading second.

How to write an ad that sells: title, photos, price

The same item can get ten messages or none. The difference is the title, the cover photo and the price. Here is how to get each right, with examples you can copy.
